Help with the clutch

Spent the afternoon helping my cousin swap out his clutch slave cylinder. Job went smoother than expected... until we hit the part where we had to bleed the system. Anyone got a go to method for bleeding it properly? We’re getting some pressure but the pedal’s still mushy. Appreciate any help

For bleeding that clutch you can try to have your cousin slowly push the pedal down and hold it. Crack the bleeder open, then close it before they let go.

Keep repeating that and don't forget to keep the fluid topped up. Check for leaks too! Sometimes air is stubborn so give it time

This is my exact method. I'm surprised you explained it so well. Is this a universal thing or something?

Yeah I like to call it the two-person approach, one person pumps the pedal a few times and holds it down, while the other opens the bleed nipple to let air out, then closes it before the pedal is released, and the master cylinder reservoir has to remain topped up the whole time to avoid sucking more air in

I borrowed a vacuum pump from a friend of mine and use it to bleed the system. It was pretty handy for me, especially since I had to do it myself and this is not exactly a one man job.

I helped my neighbor with his old Hilux clutch last fall, we tried the pedal method for hours, still mushy. Ended up using a cheap vacuum bleeder from the local auto shop and boom, firm pedal in under ten minutes. Total game changer.

The reason why it's probably mushy is that it's not entirely bled, maybe your cousin is releasing the pedal a bit sooner or you're not tightening it in time. You can try to be a bit more synced or like some of the others mentioned, get a shop vacuum and do it yourself.
